Ralph Hansen photographs

Consists of seven photographs of the aftermath of the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. The photographs, which depict emaciated survivors, corpses, and the burial of bodies, were taken by Ralph Hansen, a member of the 22nd Infantry regiment of the 4th Division of the United States Army. Ralph Hansen was inducted into the United States Army in Brooklyn, New York, on March 9, 1942. He did basic training at Fort Screven, GA, and at Fort Moultrie, SC, as a radio operator. In the summer of 1943, he was sent overseas and stationed in Scotland. Assigned to the 22nd regiment, 4th division, he may have been away from his unit in April 1945 when he witnessed the aftermath of the liberation of Buchenwald.
