Future generations will stop at this bronze maple leaf and plaque set in the wall of the Hotel de Wereld at Wageningen and read, from this inscribed page of history: ?In this building on 5 May 1945, Lt. Gen. Charles Foulkes, CBE, DSO, General Officer Commanding First Canadian Corps, accepted the unconditional surrender of the 25th German Army under Col. Gen. Johannes Blaskowitz.? The plaque was unveiled, with 16.000 townsfolk present, on 9 July 45.'
