Gen. Charles Foulkes, CBE, DSO, General Officer Commanding First Canadian Corps, accepted the unconditional surrender of the 25th German Army under Col. Gen. Johannes Blaskowitz.? The plaque was unveiled, with 16.000 townsfolk present, on 9 July 45.'
