U.S. Engineers study new German glass mine. Components of a German glass mine nicknamed oitment box by U.S. soldiers, with its cover, are displayed on a field near Musbach, Germany, where the mine was safely unearthed and dismantled by American Army engineerd. The centerpiece of the plastic-encased mine is completely made of glass, with the exception of the detonator (right). The glass bowl containing the explosive and pressure plate cover are devised to avoid detection by ordinaty mine-detectors which register the pressure of metal, yet these mines have also been discovered and successfully dismantled.
