V-E Day celebrated in

V-E Day celebrated in Pilsen. The burgomeister of Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, former prisoner in the Buchenwald concentrataion camp in Germany, expresses his appreciation to American liberating forces "V-E Day", May 8, 1945, by presenting black bread and salt to Major General Walter M. Robertson, commanding general of Second Infantry Division, Third U.S. Army, whose troops captured Pilsen May 7, 1945. This is an old Czech custom signifying humility and friendship. General Robertson cuts the bread, which is held by the burgomeister's daughter. The burgomeister is standing behind his daughter.
