U.S. Troops rest before departure for Pacific.

27 juli 1945

U.S. Troops rest before departure for Pacific. These fresh American troops, about to depart for the Pacific war theater, snatch a few moments' rest during a final check-up before they leave for their troopship from Camp Stoneman in the Pacific coast state of California. By sea, air, railroad and highway the U.S. is moving more than 3,000,000 (M) troops in redeployment to swing its full armed might against the Japanese. The War Department announced it would use 370 vessels to bring veteran troops to the U.S. from Europe. Other troops were being moved directly from Europe to the Pacific. Within the United States, the Army estimated that at the peak month they would require more than 24,000 sleeping cars and over 11,000 coaches to carry troops across the country. The first airmen from the European theater joined in the Far East Air Force's attack on targets in the Japanese homeland July 16.
