OFF ON FIRST BRITAIN TO RUSSIA SHUTTLE MISSION. Fighter pilots of the Eighth U.S. Air Force clutch 16 maps and chocolate bars as they ride out to an airfield in England to take off on the first fighter-bomber shuttle mission from Great Brittain to Russia. More than 1000 heavy bombers escorted by P-51 Mustangs attacked Berlin Juni 21, 1944, to launch the two-way aerial bombardment of Nazidom. Taking off in England, they unloosed their loads over the capital of Germany and flew on to land in Russia. Refuelled and reloaded there, the planes will take off from Russian bases, drop more bombs on the enemy and return to the home base.
