U.S. medical corpsman delivers baby in Italy. A U.S. medical corpsman, George McKenny, former mortician of Atlanta, Georgia, visits an Italian mother and the baby which he delivered in the Fifth Allied Army area in Italy, in an emergency call when no Italian doctor or midwife was available. McKenny said: This delivery was a little out of my line. Since the Allied landings in Sicily and on the Italian mainland, as in all battle and operational areas, Allied forces have rendered essential aid to prevent undue hardship on civilian populations, regardless of nationality, creed or race. Medical aid has formed the major phase of such assistance, along with the facilitating of food supply distribution. At its last session, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration adopted a resolution to grant limited aid to Italy.
