This Japanese picture was made shortly after the Japanese invasion of the U.S. Pacific island in 1941. The trio were beheaded for some offense against the Japanese military. This picture was taken from captured Japanese soldiers, who said it was circulated among them "for morale purposes". Guam was liberated by U.S. forces in August, 1944, and is now advance headquarters for U.S. Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, commander of Allied naval forces in the Pacific. Guam is an important base for strikes against the Japanese home islands.
