Supreme Allied Commander with Generals released for Japanese Prison, U.S. Army General of the Army Douglas Mac Arthur (center), Supreme Allied Commander stands with British General Sir Archibald E. General Mac Arthur had invited both men, to be present at the enemy's formal surrender, which took place aboard the U.S. battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay, south of Japan's capital, on Sept. 1, 1945.
