Im Tunnel : das kurze Leben der Marion Samuel 1931-1943

2004

A detailed biography of a German Jewish girl, accompanied by photographs and documents - an example of one of hundreds of thousands who suffered the same fate. Marion was born in Arnswalde (now Choszczno, Poland). In 1935 her parents, Ernst and Cilly Samuel, were forced to close their business and sell their apartment. They moved to Berlin, where Marion was registered in 1937 in a public school. In 1938 she transferred to the Jewish school, which was closed down in 1942. In 1941 her father was taken for forced labor at Daimler-Benz, while her mother worked for Blaupunkt. On 27 February 1943 Marion and her parents were arrested; they were separated, and sent to three different assembly points. All three were deported a few days later to Auschwitz. Marion was gassed on 4 March 1943. Her parents died a few weeks later. Most of the extended family perished as well; some managed to emigrate. Relates the fate of members of the extended Samuel family. Originalausg. 158, [1] pages : illustrations ; 19 cm.
