District attorney of the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court collection
From 2002 to 2005, the prosecution Frankfurt (Main) offered the Fritz Bauer Institute some files of their non-current records regarding the prosecution of Nazi perpetrators, especially the complex Auschwitz. These files were selected and released for cassation at a previous transfer of the creator of records to the Hessian main state archives Wiesbaden (HHStAW). Corresponding with the Hessian Archive Act, the Fritz Bauer Institute took in the files and has preserved them since. The collection district attorney of the Frankfurt am Main Regional Court encompasses after description, demetallization and filing 1,488 archival units with a total extent of 32.0 running meters. Since the record group did not have an inner structure upon its accession by the Fritz Bauer Institute's archive the processor Johannes Beermann-Schön created a new order during the description between July 2018 and February 2019. The structure is oriented towards the classification of the record group 461 "prosecution at the Landgericht Frankfurt (Main)" ("Staatsanwaltschaft bei dem Landgericht Frankfurt am Main") at the HHStAW, i.e., the by the HHStAW acceded files of the prosecution Frankfurt (Main). Thus, an easy and consistent use of the transmission of the prosecution Frankfurt (Main) in both archives is to be ensured. The holdings are structured in six sections: "case files" ("Sachakten"), "staff" ("Personal"), "investigation and penal proceedings" ("Ermittlungs- und Strafverfahren"), "verdicts" ("Urteile"), "Allgemeine Registratursachen" ("AR-Sachen") and "auxiliaries" ("Hilfsmittel"). The section "case files" ("Sachakten") contains documents compiled by the Frankfurt (Main) prosecution regarding completed files. For example, the prosecution's correspondence with the Deutsche Dienststelle (WASt) and the Berlin Document Center (BDC) regarding information about former SS members at Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. The section "staff" ("Personal") comprises a few archival units regarding the remuneration of business trips and the expenses of the investigation proceedings. The section "investigation and penal proceedings" ("Ermittlungs- und Strafverfahren") includes the main files and reference files of 45 investigation and penal proceedings of the prosecution Frankfurt (Main) concerning Nazi violent crimes (NSG-Verfahren) and 14 investigation proceedings of other Federal German prosecution, as well as of the Zentrale Stelle der Landesjustizverwaltung zur Aufklärung nationalsozialistischer Verbrechen Ludwigsburg. The section also contains the so called special files ("Sonderhefte") of the prosecution Frankfurt (Main). Starting at the early 1960s, they were created for every known staff member of Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp and were constantly maintained until the early 2000s. The special files ("Sonderhefte") are closely connected to the prosecution's file-card table, which is also part of the collection. All the file-cards were digitized by the Fritz Bauer Institute in 2017. In the section "verdicts" ("Urteile"), verdicts of various Federal German penal proceedings concerning Nazi violent crimes are gathered. The section "Allgemeine Registratursachen" ("AR-Sachen") contains files that were already denoted as "Allgemeine Registratursachen" (AR) by the prosecution Frankfurt (Main) and stored as such. Card indices, photo folders (Lichtbildmappen), expert's reports (Gutachten), general reports, finding aids and material collections used by the prosecution Frankfurt (Main) during their investigative work against Nazi violent crimes are summarized in the section "auxiliaries" ("Hilfsmittel").
