The memoir tells the story of her childhood in Hungary; marriage and family life; German occupation of Hungary in 1944 and subsequent hardships for Jews; her experiences in a number of camps, including Auschwitz, Ravensbrück, Nordhausen, and Mauthausen; liberation and return to Hungary; escape from Hungary after the 1956 uprising; and a new life in the United States.
