Italians meet the Allies.
Italians meet the Allies. Italians civilians - men, women and children - wade out from the shore to inspect an Allied LCI (landing craft, infantry), at anchor at Salerno, Italy, after the Brisitish and American forces had driven the Germans from the city. It was at Salerno that the Allied Fifth Army landed for the campaign of liberation against the Germans on the Italian mainland.
