Malmedy massacre memorial. Moulded in concrete, this cross at Baugnez, Belgium, near the town of Malmedy, is dedicated to American soldiers who were murdered by the Germans at the start of the Battle of the Ardennes. More than 100 U.S. soldiers, who were prisoners of the Germans, were executed at the spot where the memorial cross stands.
