U.S. soldiers capture Worms, Germany. These steel road blocks were placed on the entrance to the Rhine River bridge at Wirms, Germany, by retreating Nazi troops who also destroyed the span before capture of the city by troops of the Fourth Armored Division and Fifth Infantry Division of the Third U.S. Army March 20, 1945. Worms is on of the west bank of the Rhine nine miles north of Ludwigshafen.
