Vaudeville for U.S. troops in Normandy. A French vaudeville troup presents a show in an outdoor woodland setting somewhere behind the lines in Normandy, where members of an American infantry unit who made the initial push on St. Lo are relaxing. This French civilian troup, which provided the first organized entertainment in Normandy for U.S. soldiers, was formed in Paris three and a half years ago and spent the intervening time giving shows to civilians and 'command performances' to German troops. When the Germans retreated in Normandy, they were stranded without food and money until the U.S. Army Special Services arranged for them to entertain American troops behind the lines and at rest areas. Compensation comes from funds supplied by the Special Services at the rate of 25 francs on every soldier who sees the show.
